Local 862 Communicator Gordy Druien Wins Pops Nudi Award and MLPA Names UAW President Ray Curry Eugene Debs Award Winner

Gordy Druien of Local 862 was presented the Pops Nudi Lifetime Achievement at the 2022 LUCA (Local Union Communication Association) Conference held at the Walter and May Reuther Family Education Center at Black Lake October 16-21. The Pop’s Nudi Award -- named after the late Alfred H. “Pops” Nudi – is presented to union communicators who have shown tireless dedication and union spirit, whether by producing local communications or inspiring their local communicators.

Gordy Druien has worked on local union communications for Local 862 since 1995. In addition to being active within LUCA, Gordy has always participated in MLPA (Midwest Labor Press Association), holding a number of offices and was MLPA President from 2015-2022. Gordy was presented the Pops Nudi Award by Region 8 LUCA Council Representative and LUCA Council Chair John Davis.

MLPA presents the Eugene Debs Award to those who are dedicated to the cause of local union communication. This year the award was presented to UAW President and former Region 8 Director Ray Curry.
